Everest Base Camp (18N/19D)

Everest Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp trek passes through the land of the Sherpas to the foot of the world's highest mountain, Sagarmatha, Nepalese for Mount Everest. The fullest views of Mt. Everest actually are from the Tibetan side, but this trek is about so much more than one mountain.

Seeing those spectacular snow-capped peaks for the first time will leave you in awe. This trek will offer you some of the most magical panoramas of the Himalayas, views that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet.

The base camps are rudimentary campsites at the base of Mount Everest that are used by mountain climbers during their ascent and descent. They are also visited by hikers. South Base Camp is used when climbing via the southeast ridge, while North Base Camp is used when climbing via the northeast ridge.

Everest View trek offers a wide range of spectacular scenery. It also offers unique cultural encounters with the Sherpa people who inhabit in the high altitude regions of the world. The trek continues through the lush vegetation of Sagarmatha National Park, with pine forests, rhododendron flowers and abundant wildlife.

Mount Everest is so special not only because it is the highest peak in the world, but also the main peak of the Himalayas. Due to its great location, it plays an important role in the local cultures of surrounding countries.

Gokyo Lakes are the sacred site for both Hindu as well as Buddhist of Nepal. The site of Gokyo Lakes is worshipped by devotees as the residing place of “Nag Devta” (Snake God). Also, there is a temple of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva in the eastern side of the lake.

Our Everest 3 Passes Trek begins with a 40-minute domestic flight from Manthali to Lukla. This scenic flight  provides you with amazing views of Langtang and the Annapurna Himalayan range. At first, we will climb down from Lukla to the Thado Koshi River and cross a few suspension bridges before reaching Phakding. The trek will be short and enjoyable as we will also be acclimatizing. In Phakding, we will not miss our chance to visit Rimishung Monastery.

Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar:

We will begin early in the morning at Phakding and move north along the banks of Dudh Koshi River, passing many suspension bridges -including Hillary Suspension Bridge. Our path also takes us through Monjo Village, deep forests, and rocky trails to Sagarmatha National Park Check Post, where we will register our permits and climb up into the forest. From this forest, you will see Mt. Everest for the first time. However, we will continue the trek until we reach Namche Bazaar - the destination for the day.

Day 5: Acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar:

Today will be an acclimatization day at Namche. We recommend you to explore Namche Bazaar. This town contains numerous Wi-Fi-linked cafes, restaurants, souvenirs, and gear shops. There are other options - visit the Sagarmatha National Park visitor center, traditional Sherpa settlements, Hillary School, Khumjung monastery, Dingboche Airport, and Everest Hotel.

Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole:

The trail first climbs steeply out Namche, and then through rhododendron forests that give way to fragrant stands of juniper and large conifers. This part of the trek is especially beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. We pass a herders’ hut at Tongba (3950m) and then climb gently to Dole.

Day 7:Trek from Dole to Machhermo

The trail starts today by climbing steeply through scrub junipers to a single lodge at Lhabarma. We pass the small settlement of Luza (4340m) and continue to climb along the side of the valley, high above the river to Machhermo. It was here that a yeti supposedly killed three yaks and attacked a Sherpa woman.

Day 8 :Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4750m)

Beyond Machhermo the trail climbs a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kantega and upwards to Cho Oyu. The trail then becomes almost level as it follows the valley past a second lake, known as Taujun, at 4710m and finally up a boulder strewn path to Gokyo. Gokyo is a collection of stone houses and walled pastures on the shores of a large lake known as Dudh Pokhari.

Day 9:Stay at Gokyo and Climb upto Gokyo:

The views around Gokyo are tremendous. For the best views we will climb Gokyo Ri today. After we enjoyed the view we will return to Gokyo village for the night (4hrs).

Day 10: Trek from Gokyo to Thangna:

Today we will cross a glacier and will see several small ice lakes. Although it will be a short day it can be tricky to stay on the undulating trail that can change throughout the season based on the seasons and conditions (3 hrs).

Day 11: Trek from Thangna to Chola pass and to DZhongla :

We will start trekking at dawn today because it will be long day and we want to cross the high pass before the winds come up later in the day. There are spectacular views of the peaks on both the Gokyo and EBC side of the Cho La pass, as we near the high point of the climb.

Day 12:Trek from DZhongla to Lobuche:

We will be able to start later today and walk at a more leisurely pace, reaching Lobuche in time for lunch. You’ll enjoy resting at Lobuche after the challenging crossing of Cho La, and to get prepared for the trek up to Kala Pattar and EBC the next day.

Day 13: Trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep:

The first section of today’s trail follows the western side of the broad Khumbu valley and ascends gently through meadows beside the glacial moraine. The ascent becomes steeper and rougher as it crosses several side moraines. From here we will continue to the current Everest base camp, which is about a 4 hours walk from Gorak Shep. We will return to this small settlement after our visit to the base camp.

Day 14: Trek from Gorak Shep to Lobuche :

After an early morning rise we will start our day by climbing the Kala Pattar. This is a steep ascent up the grassy slopes west of Gorak Shep. From Kala Pattar the entire Everest south face is visible as well as Lho La (the pass between Nepal and Tibet, also named the Western Cwm), Changtse (the northern peak of Everest) and most of the West-Ridge route. We return to Gorak Shep and continue to descent to Lobuche.

Day 15: Trek from Lobuche to Tengboche:

To go to Dingboche we retrace our steps back to Dughla, and then go straight up the hill from the bridge to reach an upper trail, staying high above the valley floor. The views from here are great.Following the trail downhill from here we will arrive at Tengboche.

Day 16: Trek from Tengboche to Monjo

We will have a steep descent from Tengboche, down to the Dudh Kosi river, before making a gentle ascent back up to Namche. From Namche we descend steeply again down the narrow valley, crossing several suspension bridges along our route to Monjo.

Day 17: Trek from Monjo to Lukla

It is a fairly easy walk from Monjo to Lukla that is mostly downhill along the Dudh Kosi river, with a final climb to Lukla. In Lukla we will have time to reconfirm our flight tickets for the next day and explore the town where we will spend the night at Lukla.

Day 18:Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu:

If everything goes according to the schedule, we will be flying back to Kathmandu in the early morning on our seventh day of the trek. Your 40-minute flight back to Kathmandu will indeed be a relaxing one, and you most probably will be looking back at the time spent during the trek.
